Mary, a Virgin?
I didn't realize that some of the early church fathers and even the great reformers (Luther, Calvin) believed in the perpetual virginity of Mary.
Here's a list that comes from Scot Mcknight's blog:
2d Century text Protevangelium James
Origen, Commentary on Matthew 10:17
Athanasius, Virginity, can’t locate reference in my NPNF text.
Augustine, Nature and Grace, 36.42.
Martin Luther, Works, 22.23.
John Calvin, NT Commentary on Synoptics, at Matthew 12:46-50.
John Wesley, in A.C. Coulter, John Wesley. 495
Very interesting. I personally believe that Mary didn't remain a virgin after the birth of Jesus. The gospels speak about his brother and sisters. Keep posted to Scot's post above, he'll write some more about this later.

Great post! I am a Catholic and I am glad to see a protestant of your stature coming over to the ROC point of view!
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.
Thanks John!
The Catholic Church teaches that the Blessed Virgin Mary is the holiest human being that ever walked the earth, after Our Lord. Her holiness also exceeds that of all the angels, even the highest Seraphim! No other mere creature gives such glory to God. Our Lord gave The Blessed Virgin to all mankind when he entrusted St. John with her care as he was dying on the Cross. "Woman, behold thy son... Son, behold thy mother." Catholic commentators agree that all mankind was represented there in the person of St. John. Our Lord gave us his most precious treasure! We should treasure her, to honor Our Lord if for no other reason.
Mary's appearances began in 40 AD, probably before she died, to James the Apostle in Saragossa, Spain. She has been appearing to others at irregular intervals throughout the two thousand years since she gave birth to Jesus. The characteristics of her apparitions has remained fairly consistent. She usually appears in a globe of pure white light, dressed in a long dress and head cover which vary in color depending on the content of her messages. Her feet are usually surrounded by a mist or cloud and she occassionally is seen holding her Son in her arms. A number of her appearances are preceded by unusual phenomena such as observations of lightning and thunder from a clear sky, apparitions of angelic beings or clouds of unusual shapes and religious significance such as a cross or a doorway as well as other inexplicable events.
